Cowgirl Basketball Drops Iowa State, 74-59

OSU (8-10 overall, 3-4 Big 12) raced out to a 42-21 lead in the first half after shooting 52 percent, including a 6-of-7 effort from the three-point line. The Cowgirls also dished out 15 assists and only turned the ball over four times in the period.
Meanwhile, the Cyclones (9-8, 2-4) could never get on track offensively, hitting 32 percent from the floor and connecting on 9-of-31 (29 percent) from beyond the arc.
ISU battled back in the second half and cut the deficit to single digits at 60-51 on a pair of Lisa Kriener free throws, but could draw no closer.
Trisha Skibbe fueled OSU during its stretch run, scoring 13 of her game-high 17 points in the second half. The Oxford, Kan., native also pulled a game-high 11 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. With her effort, Skibbe moved into sole possession of fifth place on the school's all-time scoring list , passing Donna Ridling and standing at 1,586 points.
Freshman Destanie Sykes added a career-high 10 points, while fellow freshman Christian Hood came off the bench to add 13 points and eight rebounds.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Lawrence, Kan., to take on the Kansas Jayhawks at 7 p.m.
