Cowgirls Start Strong at UNLV Invitational

Oklahoma State's women's tennis team saw several individuals advance through the first day of competition of the UNLV Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.
The Cowgirls, led by senior Katya Kolodynska, advanced two individuals to the semifinals and one team to the finals.
Kolodynska escaped unscathed in a closely contested match against Alabama's Robin Stephenson, 7-6, 7-5, in singles flight one.
In the singles flight four, newcomer Lauren Simmons defeated San Diego's Jenna Anderson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.
Also competing in flight four, sophomore Zana Masnic was downed by Alabama's Mari Muller, 6-3, 6-0.
Junior Ines Furtmayr made it close against San Diego's Lauren Kazarian, falling in flight three by a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Also unable to escape the first round, senior Jana Karaskova was dropped by New Mexico's Maja Kovacek, 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles play, the tandem of Kolodynska and Karaskova continued their hot streak by defeating New Mexico's Sandy Lukowski and Kovacek, 8-5, in the first flight.
Newly paired Masnic and Simmons lost their first match as a team, falling 8-5, to San Diego's Lina Baensch and Lauren Perl in flight three.
The semifinal rounds for each of the individual flights will begin at 10 a.m. PDT and will be immediately followed by the doubles final rounds. The consolation bracket will also begin for those players eliminated on day one.
