Mark Van Elden Advances Through Qualifying

COSTA MESA, Calif. (OSU Athletics ) Â— Oklahoma State's Mark Van Elden won his first four matches at the USTA Futures Tournament in Costa Mesa, Calif., to qualify for the main singles draw.

The Geelong Victoria, Australia native breezed through his first four matches in straight sets to qualify for the tournament.

Van Elden, the third seed in the event, defeated Angel Diaz-Mendez 6-1, 6-0 in the first round and cruised past James Martineau 6-3, 6-1 in the second round of competition. He outlasted Dirk Britzen 7-5 in the first set before putting him away by a score of 6-3 in the second set. He defeated Ryan fleming 6-3, 6-3 to complete qualifying.

Van Elden will be in the main draw beginning tomorrow.
