Cowboys Sign Swedish Forward to Letter of Intent
July 25, 2003 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER, Okla. -- The Oklahoma State men's basketball program announced its third signee of the fall recruiting season today.
Fredrik Jonzen, a 6-10, 230-pound forward from Uppsala, Sweden, will join the Cowboys as a freshman next season. Jonzen plays for the club team Sallens in Sweden and attends high school at Katdralskolan.
Jonzen is a member of the Swedish National Team and is a highly recruited prospect who also attended the prestigious Nike Camp this summer. He spent his sophomore year as an exchange student at Shawnee Mission (Kan.) East High School, playing as a teammate of current Cowboy freshman Michael Johnson.
"Fredrik had his choice of several different schools, and we're excited that he made the decision to join our program," said OSU head coach Eddie Sutton. "He's a wonderful young man and has a chance to be an outstanding player in our program.
"He's highly skilled for his size -- he has good hands and runs the floor well -- and he has the ability to play outside as well as with his back to the basket. He's a smart and experienced basketball player because of the type of competition he plays against on a regular basis in his country."
Jonzen is the third player to sign with Oklahoma State during the fall. OSU has one scholarship remaining for the 1998-99 season and expects to fill that slot during the spring.
The Cowboys square off against Buducnost (Yugoslavia) on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. in their final exhibition game of the year.
