Cowboys Win Exhibition Opener Over California All-Stars

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Joe Adkins scored 24 points to lead four Cowboys in double figures as Oklahoma State opened its exhibition men's basketball season with a 97-83 victory over the California All-Stars.
Adkins hit 5 of 6 three-pointers and added team highs of three assists and three steals as the Cowboys built a 20-point lead midway through the second half and coasted from there.
Adkins was joined by another sophomore, forward Desmond Mason, in having outstanding nights. Mason recorded 17 points and nine rebounds off the bench, hitting two three-pointers and two crowd-pleasing dunks. Both Adkins and Mason would have recorded career scoring highs had tonight's game been an official contest.
"Adkins had a tremendous game offensively," said OSU head coach Eddie Sutton. "He shot the ball well. Desmond played like I have envisioned him playing. That is what we have been trying to program him to do. He has to get active and get on the glass."
Senior Brett Robisch scored 14 points and pulled down a would-be career-high 14 rebounds, and leading returning scorer Adrian Peterson had 12 points and three assists.
Sam Allen was the All-Stars' leading scorer with 23 points. Billy Dreher, who began his collegiate career at OSU, hit three three-pointers and scored 15 points.
The Cowboys open their regular season Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. game against Texas-Pan American. The game follows Oklahoma State's final home football game, which takes place at 2 p.m. against Texas Tech.
