Cowboys Roll to Exhibition Win Over Buducnost

STILLWATER, Okla. -- OSU closed its exhibition schedule with a 114-52 rout of Buducnost, a club team from Podgorica, Yugoslavia.
Desmond Mason scored a would-be career-high 32 points, most coming on thundering dunks, on 14-for-24 shooting. He was one of seven Cowboys in double figures; Brett Robisch led OSU in rebounds with eight. Adrian Peterson scored 15 points and led OSU in steals with five.
"I think from the first few games we've played, everybody's been playing hard," said Mason. "Everybody's been consistent. We have to work on free throws; I know everyone in the crowd noticed that. We haven't been shooting well from the free throw line, but we have been shooting well from the field."
"Mason has really got a chance to be a great player," said OSU coach Eddie Sutton. "If Desmond can learn to shoot the ball a little bit better from the perimeter and handle the ball a little bit, he could be a special player. He is exciting to watch. He dunks the ball like I used to."
The Cowboys dominated Buducnost in nearly every statistical category, grabbing 19 steals forcing 39 turnovers (the school record is 33) and out-rebounding the Yugoslavian team 47-20.
The Cowboys' 114 points would tie for the third-best total all-time had they come in a regular-season game, and 62-point margin of victory would rank second in OSU history.
OSU, 1-0 in regular-season play after Saturday's 103-71 victory over Texas-Pan American, returns to regular action this weekend when the Cowboys host Creighton in a Saturday evening matchup. Tipoff is at 7:05 p.m.
