AMES, Iowa (AP) - Desmond Mason scored 18 points, Adrian Peterson had 17 and Oklahoma State matched its season high with 11 3-point baskets in an 81-66 victory over Iowa State on Wednesday night.
Oklahoma State (17-4, 7-4 Big 12) entered the game shooting just 32 percent from 3-point range, but the Cowboys hit six 3s in the first eight minutes while opening a 24-14 lead and were in control the rest of the way.
Iowa State (10-14, 3-8) never got the lead below double digits in the second half and lost for the fourth straight time and the sixth time in seven games.
Peterson hit three 3-pointers, while Mason, Joe Adkins, Doug Gottlieb and Chad Alexander each made two. The Cowboys were 7-for-11 on 3-pointers in the first half and finished 11-for-22. Adkins scored 15 points, as did Brett Robisch.
Klay Edwards led Iowa State with 16 points and Marcus Fizer scored 15. They combined to make 12-of-21 shots, mostly on the inside, but the Cyclones had little outside shooting to complement them.
Oklahoma State pulled away early, getting 3-point baskets from Mason, Gottlieb and Alexander while outscoring the Cyclones 11-1 in only 90 seconds to open a 21-11 lead.
A jumper by the 6-foot-11 Robisch made it 39-25 and the Cowboys led 43-29 at halftime. With Iowa State's defense stretched to the 3-point line, Oklahoma State went inside while increasing its lead to 55-37 with 15:23 to play.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Mason and Gottlieb gave the Cowboys their biggest lead, 61-39, with 13:17 left. Iowa State closed to 69-59 with a 10-3 run that included two 3-pointers by Jerry Curry, but Oklahoma State scored the next six points to put it away.
