Cowboys Downed by the Hot Shooting of Texas

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Luke Axtell scored 24 points and the Texas Longhorns unleashed a barrage of 3-pointers in an 87-73 victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday.
Axtell hit six of Texas' 13 3-pointers and fueled a pair of key runs for the Longhorns (9-11, 3-5 Big 12).
The Cowboys (14-4, 4-4) led 21-18 when Bernard Smith hit a 3-pointer with 7:32 left in the first half. The shot triggered a 23-2 Texas run that turned out to be devastating for Oklahoma State.
Smith followed with a half-court alley-oop pass to Kris Clack, and Texas then hit six 3-pointers, including three by Axtell, to take a 41-23 lead with 3:46 left in the half.
The Longhorns led 44-31 at halftime.
Axtell triggered another key run with his 3-pointer 30 seconds into the second half. There were two more 3-pointers during the 23-9 spurt that made it 67-40 with 13:26 left.
Oklahoma State could get only as close as 71-58 with 7:32 to go.
Clack finished with 20 points for Texas, while Chris Mihm added 13 and Nnadubem Muoneke 11.
Brett Robisch led the Cowboys with 21 points. Desmond Mason added 16 points, Joe Adkins 15 and Brian Montonati 10.
