Women's Basketball to Face No. 3 Seed Kansas
June 09, 2003 | Cowgirl Basketball
Jennifer Crow scored 21 points and Megan Gregg added 14 as Oklahoma State (13-14) beat rival Oklahoma, 70-56 in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament. The victory setup a rematch for the Cowgirls, who lost 79-72 in overtime to the Jayhawks on Feb. 24.
In that loss, the Jayhawks hit 25 of 28 attempts from the free throw line, including 8-for-8 during overtime.
"The difference in the ball game was they shot free throws better than they have all year long," said Cowgirls' coach Dick Halterman after the game. "They have some 35, 45, and 53 percent free throw shooters that shot 80 and 90 percent tonight. We missed some crucial free throws as well."
Lynn Pride, who was 5 of 5 from the line, led Kansas with 28 points while Crow led Oklahoma State with 20 points, including two free throws with six seconds remaining that sent the game into overtime.
The No. 21 Jayhawks (21-8), who dropped their season-finale on Saturday to Kansas State, 69-58, entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed and gained a first-round bye.
Kansas State's Angie Finkes scored a career-high 28 points to pace the Wildcats to the upset victory.
Nakia Sanford led the Jayhawks with 17 points while Lynne Pride added 15.
