COWGIRLS FACE GOLDEN EAGLES Oklahoma State travels down the Cimarron Turnpike to Tulsa, Okla., this Tuesday to face the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles in non-conference action. OSU is 1-0 after a 64-57 victory over the SMU Mustangs in the Cowgirls' season opener. ORU is coming off a 100-99 loss to the Oklahoma Flyers in exhibition action last Friday night. Tipoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
LAST TIME Oklahoma State's Jennifer Crow scored 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Cowgirls avenged their 1997 loss to the SMU Mustangs, 64-57, in Gallagher-Iba Arena Saturday night. Sophomore center Devon Magness added 10 points and senior Nikki Harmon chipped in nine for the seven-point win. The difference was at the free-throw line, where the Cowgirls connected on 29-of-40 shots from the stripe, good for 72.5 percent. The Mustangs, meanwhile, hit just 51.9 percent, making 14-of-27. Neither team shot well from the field, with SMU shooting 35.1 percent and OSU shooting 32.0 percent.
COMING UP The Cowgirls will take off 10 days before returning to action Nov. 27 as OSU hosts the Cowgirl Classic, Nov. 27-28. Other teams participating are UMKC, New Mexico and Northwestern (La.) State.
COACH DICK HALTERMAN Dick Halterman is in his 16th season as head coach of the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, and brings with him a 275-172 (.614) record, the most wins by a women's basketball coach in OSU history. Halterman came to Oklahoma State following a successful five-year career at Moberly Junior College, where he led his team to a 144-23 record in five seasons and the 1982 National Junior College Championship. Prior to that, Halterman was the head coach at Wheeling High School for four years, and led the team to a 105-11 record and the 1975 Missouri State High School Basketball Championship. Halterman is a two-time Big Eight Coach-of-the-Year selection, and has a 145-113 (.562) record vs. the rest of the Big 12. During Halterman's tenure, Oklahoma State has posted seven 20-victory seasons, the most recent being last season's 20-11 mark.

Kevin Gum, as he has done for the past eight seasons, provides play-by-play, while Casey Kendrick, in his fourth season with the broadcast, provides color analysis. COWGIRL NOTE-ABLE Oklahoma State has 13 players on its roster from the state of Oklahoma. Two more are from neighboring Arkansas, and the last one, Jessica Spinner, is from Western Australia ... Several of OSU's current players will move up the Cowgirl career charts this season. Jennifer Crow, just starting her third year in an OSU uniform, is currently tied for sixth on the three-pointers made list with 91. She is also 11th on the free-throws made list with 241. Kourtney Bower ranks 15th on the career three-pointers made list with 33, and sophomore Devon Magness is already tied for 13th on the career blocked-shots list with 29 ... Oklahoma State has received votes in both the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll and the Women's Basketball News Service ... The Cowgirls will play seven teams this season that are ranked in the preseason Associated Press poll.
CROW PICKS UP WHERE SHE LEFT OFF Cowgirl junior Jennifer Crow started the 1998-99 season right where she ended last year, leading the team. Crow's 23 points vs. SMU last Saturday night led the game and were the most by a Cowgirl since she scored a career-high 25 points vs. Nebraska in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament last season. Her 10 rebounds in the game vs. SMU were a career high. Jennifer has scored in double figures in 37 of her 59 career games, and has scored at least 20 points in six games.
COWGIRLS PICKED EIGHTH IN PRESEASON POLLS Oklahoma State's women's basketball team has been predicted to finish eighth in the Big 12 Conference, according to both the media and coaches' polls. Last season, the Cowgirls were selected ninth in the preseason, but exceeded expectations, finishing fifth in the regular season and tied for third at the Big 12 Tournament. LAST TIME BETWEEN OSU AND ORU Oklahoma State had six players score in double figures, including an 18-point performance by Megan Gregg off the bench, as the Cowgirls routed the Golden Eagles, 92-50, in the first round of the Bertha Teague Memorial Classic last December. Gregg connected on 6-of-10 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the line in just 24 minutes of play. She also had seven rebounds. The Cowgirls shot 51.8 percent from the floor while holding ORU to just 34.6 percent. The OSU defense also forced 18 turnovers. Oral Roberts' Laketa Collier had 11 points, leading the team.
SERIES BETWEEN OSU AND ORU Oklahoma State leads the overall series with Oral Roberts, 16-12, including a current 10-game winning streak. The last ORU win was in 1986, when the Lady Titans pulled off an 82-72 overtime win at the Mabee Center.
