Cowgirls Win Exhibition, 78-53
June 09, 2003 | Cowgirl Basketball
Oklahoma State was led by senior Cheri Edwards, who scored 17 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field, including 3-of-4 from the three-point line. Freshman Devon Magness added 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting in just 15 minutes of play.
"I don't know that we know much more than we did before the scrimmage," said OSU Head Coach Dick Halterman. "We played pretty good in the first half and in spurts in the second half. I thought we had a good effort."
Lithuania's Ramune Giliene, also the head coach, led the team in scoring with 12 points. Ada Balaisienne added 10 while Agne Ragaisyte had nine.
Several newcomers made an immediate impact, especially freshman Reba Johnson. The Ardmore, Okla., native scored four points and pulled down eight rebounds while dishing out three assists. She also had two steals in just 10 minutes. Junior college transfer Megan Gregg added seven points and six boards for the Cowgirls.
"Reba (Johnson) showed that she is going to be good and showed her athleticism," Halterman said. "Devon (Magness) also showed she is going to be able to do some good things in a live situation. Megan (Gregg) looked real comfortable, especially in the second half. She is really just getting used to our system and she is going to be a factor for us down the road."
Oklahoma State will host the Victoria All-Stars of Australia on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. before opening regular-season play on Friday, Nov. 14, when the Cowgirls host Arkansas State. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
