Cowgirls Fall to New Mexico, 65-44

New Mexico's Abby Garchek scored 18 points while Miranda Sanchez added 13. OSU's Jennifer Crow scored 12, leading all Cowgirl scorers, while Cheri Edwards added 11. Renee Roberts, who led the Cowgirls with nine rebounds, fouled out with 7:56 left in the game.
"I'd watched New Mexico on tape, and I told our kids they would be the best team we've played," said OSU coach Dick Halterman. "They're a lot better on the perimeter than we thought they would be."
OSU led, 1-0, to start the game when Devon Magness hit one of two free throws at the 18:47 mark of the first half. But, Garchek hit a baseline jumper 45 seconds later and the Lobos never trailed again.
"Oklahoma State really pushed the ball hard against us," said UNM coach Don Flanagan. "We took a couple of charges and really played well on defense. Jennifer Crow is a really smart player. I knew that when we tried to recruit her, but she wouldn't leave (the state of) Oklahoma."
New Mexico hit six three pointers in the first half, including three consecutive early in the game. Edwards had seven in the first half to lead Cowgirl scorers.
Oklahoma State dropped to 3-3 while UNM upped its record to 9-1. OSU's next action will be Friday, Dec. 19th, as the Cowgirls host the Southwest Texas Bobcats in a 7 p.m. tipoff in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
