Basketball's Kourtney Bower Earns Postgraduate Scholarship

The Big 12 created the award to be given to male and female scholar-athletes that show excellence in the classroom as well as in their respective sport.
A committee of three faculty representatives, a senior woman administrator and a director of athletics determined the number of recipients to be given awards. Criteria of eligibility to receive the award included a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 on a 3.0 scale, participation in at least two years of intercollegiate competition at the respective institution and completion of athletics eligibility.
As a four-year first-team academic all-conference selection, Bower achieved excellence in the classroom as well as on the court. She has maintained a 3.80 GPA, and will graduate in May of 2000 with a degree in health promotions. The Midwest City, Okla., native sits at 11th on OSU's all-time three-pointers list with 51, and 10th on the all-time assists list with 214. Bower was also active in community service, and was a delegate for Oklahoma State University at the CHAMPS/Life Skills Conference following her junior year.
Other Big 12 recipients were Kate Benson, University of Nebraska; Heather Burroughs and Xan Courville, University of Colorado; Bobbi Crill, Texas Tech University; Emily Diederich, Kansas State University; Mark Naftanel, Texas A&M University; and Nikki Webber, University of Missouri.
Bower is the second OSU student-athlete to earn the accolade, as Cowboy wrestler Mark Branch received a postgraduate scholarship in 1997.
