Cowgirl golfers earn national accolades

Oklahoma State women’s golf coach Amy Weeks was named the Central Region’s Coach of the Year, it was announced Friday night at the National Golf Coaches’ Association banquet following the NCAA Championships. It was the first such award for the third-year coach.

Oklahoma State also had three golfers named honorable mention All-America by the NGCA. Senior Linda Wessberg, who finished sixth individually at the NCAA Championships, was joined by sophomore Annie Thurman and freshman Karin Sjödin on the All-America squad.

Sjödin and sophomore Jenny Karr were both named to the All-Scholar team, the equivalent of being named an academic All-American by the NGCA.

Wessberg, Thurman, Sjödin and senior Christi Cano were all named to the All-Central Region squad.

The Cowgirls finished tied for fifth at the NCAA Championships this past week, equalling their best performance since 1989, when OSU finished third.
