Quickly Oklahoma State hosts the Texas A&M Aggies in the final game of the regular season. OSU is 20-8 overall and 9-6 in Big 12 Conference action after a 68-56 loss at Colorado Wednesday night. A&M is 14-12 overall, 6-9 in league play and coming off a 79-60 win over Baylor in College Station Wednesday night. OSU defeated the Aggies earlier this season, 93-76.
Rankings Oklahoma State is ranked 20th in the Associated Press poll and 18th in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' poll. The Cowboys are ranked 18th in the Ratings Percentage Index according to Collegiate Basketball News. Texas A&M is not in either poll. The Aggies are ranked No. 61 in the RPI.
On Television Saturday's game will be televised by ESPN Regional, part of the Big 12 Conference's television package. Dave Armstrong will handle the play-by-play duties, while Jon Sundvold will provide expert analysis. The game can be seen in Oklahoma City on KOCB-TV 34, Cox Cable 11 in Stillwater, as well as KJRH-TV 2 in Tulsa.
Last Time Out For OSU Ivan McFarlin picked up his first double-double in six weeks with 13 points and 11 rebounds, but it was not enough as the Cowboys shot just 32.2 percent from the floor and fell to the Colorado Buffaloes, 68-56, Wednesday night in Boulder. Victor Williams matched McFarlin's 13 points for team honors, but the CU post duo of David Harrison and Stephane Pelle combined for 28 points and 27 rebounds. OSU trailed by five at halftime, 31-26, but shot just 31 percent in the second stanza, connecting on 9-of-29 from the floor and no three pointers. The Pokes grabbed 45 rebounds, but were still outrebounded by one, and turned the ball over 14 times. OSU was also called for 26 fouls in the game, with both Andre Williams and Tony Allen being disqualified. Allen finished with nine points and nine rebounds, while Melvin Sanders finished with nine points and six boards.
About Texas A&M Texas A&M is 14-12 overall this season and 6-9 in Big 12 Conference action. The Aggies are led by senior guard Bernard King, who is averaging 16.9 points and 5.8 assists per game. Freshman Antoine Wright is chipping in 15 points and 6.6 rebounds per contest. As a team, A&M is shooting 43.3 percent from the floor, including 36.9 percent from beyond the arc. With a win, the Aggies can move up to the No. 7 seed in the Big 12 Tournament if Texas Tech loses at Baylor. Otherwise, A&M will be the No. 8 seed and play Iowa State at noon on Thursday.
Last time out for the Aggies Andy Slocum scored a game-high 18 points in 16 minutes off the bench, and Texas A&M defeated Baylor, 79-60, Wednesday night in College Station. Antoine Wright added 13 points for the Aggies while Keith Bean chipped in 10. Bernard King scored just three points, but dished out a game-high 10 assists. A&M shot 52.7 percent from the floor while limiting the Bears to just 32.3 percent from the field. The Aggie defense also held the Baylor long-range shooters in check, allowing them to connect on just 7-of-31 from beyond the arc. A&M outrebounded BU, 42-33.
Series with A&M: OSU leads, 20-8 With a 93-76 win over Texas A&M earlier this season in College Station, OSU improved its all-time record over the Aggies to 20-8. The Cowboys have won six consecutive over A&M, and 14 of the last 15 vs. the Aggies. The Pokes are 7-1 vs. Texas A&M in Stillwater, including a 66-51 win last season in Gallagher-Iba Arena. Of OSU's eight losses to Texas A&M, five came prior to 1924. OSU won six from 1924 until 1960 before A&M won two straight in 1972 and 1981.
Miller, Steyn Excell in Classroom A pair of Cowboy basketball student-athletes have been honored by the Big 12 Conference for their efforts in the classroom. Frans Steyn a sophomore from Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa, has been named first-team Academic All-Big 12 while majoring in business at Oklahoma State. Jason Miller, a junior from Livingston, Texas, made the second-team Academic All-Big 12 while majoring in education at OSU.
Up Next: the Big 12 Tournament Oklahoma State's seed in next week's Big 12 Tournament will be decided on Saturday. If the Cowboys defeat Texas A&M, they will be the No. 4 seed, receive a first-round bye and play next Friday at 2:20 p.m. Even if OSU loses to the Aggies, if Kansas defeats Missouri in Columbia, OSU is still the No. 4 seed. However, if MU beats KU, OSU would drop to the No. 5 seed, and could drop to No. 6 if Colorado defeats Nebraska in Boulder.
