Cowgirl Basketball Heads To Dallas For Big 12 Tourney
April 15, 2003 | Cowgirl Basketball
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (7-20 overall, 3-13 Big 12) will begin play at the Big 12 Tournament on Tuesday night at Reunion Arena in Dallas. The 11th-seeded Cowgirls will take on the sixth-seeded Missouri Tigers (15-12, 9-7) in the 8:30 p.m. game. A possible second-round matchup against the No. 3-seeded Texas Tech Lady Raiders on Wednesday night awaits the winner of the OSU-MU contest.
OSU AND THE BIG 12
The Cowgirls enter the tournament with their lowest seeding since ending the 1998-99 conference season with a 4-12 record and an 11th-place finish in the league. OSU owns a 5-6 record all-time in the Big 12 Tournament with the squad's best finish coming in 1998, a tie for third. OSU's opening-round opponent, Missouri, won the lone meeting between the two schools this season, prevailing 87-65 on Jan. 25 in Columbia. The Cowgirls trail Missouri 23-19 in the all-time series, however, OSU has won four of the seven neutral-floor meetings between the two squads. The Cowgirls and Tigers met five times in the Big Eight Tournament with Mizzou holding a 3-2 advantage, while OSU won the lone meeting between the two schools in the Big 12 Tourney, a 67-48 triumph in 1998.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cowgirls closed out the regular season with an 89-46 loss to Baylor inside the Ferrell Center last Wednesday. The Lady Bears held OSU to just four field goals over the final 20 minutes and outscored them by a 47-19 count. BU converted 38 points off the Cowgirls' 27 turnovers in the contest. OSU freshman Cara Painter was productive off the bench, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds, both career highs.
