STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's softball team used a sixth inning rally to defeat Missouri 2-1 at Cowgirl Stadium on Sunday. The Cowgirls are now in sole possession of second place in the conference standings behind Texas.
Neither team mustered much offense until the sixth inning when they combined for four hits and three runs.
Paced by singles from Sara Vassmer and Heather Kunkel, Missouri staged a two-out rally in the top of the frame to push one run home.
The lead would not last long as the Cowgirls made a two-out surge of their own in the bottom of the frame.
Stephanie Nicholson led off with her first triple of the year, sending the shot to the center field wall. Lauren Bay then drew a walk and stole second to move into scoring contention.
Missouri's defense came through with a pair of outs but Brooke Siebel followed with a single to clear the bases and give the Cowgirls the win.
Bay ended the game in grand fashion, fanning three batters in the top of the seventh to end the contest.
Bay is now 18-6 on the year after earning the sweep of Missouri. The lefty fanned 11 Tigers, scattered three hits and gave up one run on the afternoon.
Oklahoma State improves to 29-9 overall and 8-3 in the Big 12 while Missouri falls to 24-15 overall and 7-4 in the league.
The Cowgirls return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Tulsa to take on the Golden Hurricane in a rescheduled contest at 6:30 p.m.
