TULSA, Okla. - In their second extra inning battle in as many meetings, Oklahoma State and Tulsa's softball teams once again needed extra innings to determine a winner. The Cowgirls emerged victorious, 8-2, and came away with their seventh consecutive extra inning win before 448 fans at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex.
In a carbon copy of the meeting earlier this year, Tulsa took a two run lead in the second inning. Katie Torres led off the frame with a homer to left center and Stacey Walkingstick scored the final run on a blooper from Holly Reynolds.
The Cowgirls evened the score in the top of the fifth, staging a rally with two down. Megan Carey doubled to right field and was promptly replaced by Ashleigh Tweed. Jade Lindly then hit her third long ball of the year, and her first since Feb. 22, over the center field wall to even the score at 2-2.
OSU finally managed to break the deadlock in the 10th when the international tie-breaker rule went into effect, plating six runs and forcing two Tulsa pitchers to leave the contest.
Carey started the inning on second, moved to the corner on a sacrifice from Jade Lindly and scored on a double from Stephanie Nicholson. Calli Behmer then followed with a double of her own to send Nicholson home and for a two run lead, but the Cowgirls were far from done.
After a Ryan Realmuto single, Brooke Siebel went yard with a three-run shot to left center to clear the bases. Keeping the rally going, Stephanie Hodges stepped up to the plate and cranked her first long ball of the year to left center to give the Cowgirls a six-run cushion.
Sarah Seagraves remained a perfect 10-0 on the year, going the entire nine innings from the circle. The freshman fanned five batters, scattered 10 hits and walked two batters.
The Cowgirls (30-9) return to action on Saturday, facing Nebraska at 5 p.m. in the first installment of the series in Lincoln, Neb.
