STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's softball team improved to 12-0 at Cowgirl Stadium on Saturday with a 8-0 win over Missouri. It was a record-setting day as Lauren Bay struck out the 1,000th batter of her career, Sara Vassmer, in the first inning.
Oklahoma State improved to 28-9 overall and 7-3 in the Big 12 while Missouri falls to 28-14 and 7-3 in league games. The Cowgirls and Tigers are now in a two-way for second, trailing Texas (9-2).
The Cowgirls jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second, capitalizing on three hits and an error in the frame.
Brooke Siebel, making her first start since suffering a knee injury on March 8, led off with a single up the middle and was replaced by pinch runner Ashleigh Tweed. Tweed moved to second on a sacrifice from Stephanie Hodges and later scored when Missouri's center fielder dropped a fly ball from Jade Lindly.
Lindly advanced to third on the throw home and completed the inning by scoring on a base hit from Stephanie Nicholson.
Oklahoma State continued to pound Missouri in the third as Ryan Realmuto, Lauren Bay and Siebel each connected for a hit to lead off the inning.
Siebel pushed Realmuto home with her hit and Afton Burris entered as a pinch runner for Siebel. The Tigers attempted to halt the threat with a new pitcher, but a pair of wild pitches allowed Bay and Burris to round the bases.
Realmuto scored on a double from Bay in the fourth and the Cowgirls plated two runs in the fifth to enforce mercy rule.
Stephanie Hodges led off with a single to left field and was replaced by Erika Ennis. Ennis then stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice from Lacy Darity. Nicholson brought Ennis home with a double and scored the final run of the day on a single from Calli Behmer.
Bay (17-6) picked up her seventh shutout of the year and fanned 13 in the complete game effort. The lefty nearly recorded her first no-hitter of the season, but Missouri's Kristen Burke connected for a double in the final frame.
Oklahoma State wraps up the series with the Tigers on Sunday at 1 p.m.
