COWGIRLS CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON AT BAYLOR
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (7-19 overall, 3-12 Big 12) will close out its regular-season slate on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. contest against Baylor (18-9, 7-8) in Waco. The Cowgirls will attempt to rebound from Saturday's loss against Oklahoma, while the Lady Bears will look to avenge their 64-55 loss earlier this season in Stillwater.
ABOUT THE LADY BEARS
Baylor enters this week's contest against the Cowgirls fresh off a 97-54 win at Texas A&M. Against the Aggies, forward Sophia Young turned in a 26-point, 12-rebound performance. The freshman is currently tops in the league in rebounding at 9.4 caroms per game. Sophomore Steffanie Blackmon leads the squad in scoring, averaging 17.3 points per outing, while reserve guard Chelsea Whitaker has a team-best 111 assists. On Feb. 19, OSU overcame a 14-point deficit to win the first meeting of the season between the two schools. The Lady Bears owned a 47-40 lead with 11:33 to play before OSU jumped out in front with a 10-1 run to take a lead it would not relinquish. The Cowgirls took advantage of 28 Baylor turnovers and the Lady Bears' poor free-throw shooting (9-of-18). Trisha Skibbe led all scorers with 25 points to go along with 12 rebounds and a career-high seven steals. The win trimmed BU's overall lead in the series to 10-7. Baylor enters Wednesday's game with a 6-1 advantage all-time against OSU in Waco.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cowgirls suffered a 71-57 loss to Oklahoma in the final home game for the squad's three seniors; Chantoya Hawkins, Shelby Hutchens and Thia Willis, before an arena-record crowd of 6,477 fans. After falling behind early, the Sooners used runs of 15-2 and 14-0 to put OSU away and win for the ninth consecutive time in the series. The Cowgirls were led by Trisha Skibbe's 17 points, while Meghan Craig added 15, including four three-pointers.
