Last Time Out For OSU
Tony Allen scored a team-high 21 points and Ivan McFarlin added 10 rebounds, but the Cowboys could not overcome the senior duo of Nick Collison and Kirk Hinrich who scored a combined 43 points as the Kansas Jayhawks defeated OSU, 79-61, in Allen Fieldhouse. The Cowboys held KU to just 39.3 percent shooting, but shot just 36.5 percent themselves and were outrebounded, 54-34. Victor Williams added 18 points while Melvin Sanders chipped in 13, but OSU got just two points off the bench in a basket by freshman Onye Ibekwe. Collison finished with 24 points, 16 rebounds and seven blocked shots in his home finale, while Hinrich added 19 points, six rebounds and five assists. Cowboy Frans Steyn got his most significant action of the conference season as he played 17 minutes, recording three rebounds, an assist, one block and a steal. OSU trailed by as many as 13 in the first period, but twice cut it to four before a Collison trey at the buzzer sent the Cowboys into the lockerrom down by seven.
About Colorado
Colorado is 17-10 overall and 7-7 in Big 12 Conference action. However, the Buffs have been unstoppable at home, garnering a 12-1 overall record in the Coors Events Center, including a 6-0 mark in league play. Michel Morandais leads CU with an 18 points-per-game average. Stephane Pelle is nearly averaging a double-double with 12.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, while center David Harrison is doing nearly the same at 13.5 points and 8.1 boards per contest. Blair Wilson is also averaging in double figures at 13.1 points per game. CU is averaging 76 points per game overall this season, although that average is over 85 for home contests.
Last time out for the Buffs
Stephane Pelle had a game-high 23 points and Michel Morandais added 22 as the Buffaloes won their only conference road game of the season with a 72-59 victory over the Baylor Bears in Waco. Morandais nearly had a double-double with nine rebounds, and also dished out five assists. Lamar Harris added 11 rebounds off the bench for CU. The Buffs shot 46.3 percent from the floor while limiting the Bears to just 37.9 percent, and outrebounded Baylor, 50-28. Pelle was 11-of-18 from the floor, and also had eight rebounds.
Series with Colorado: OSU leads, 54-44
Oklahoma State leads the all-time series with Colorado, 54-44, including a 14-4 mark in the Sutton era. The Buffaloes lead the overall series in Boulder, 29-15 and, since Big 12 play began in 1996-97, the series is tied, 3-3, with each team winning at home. OSU won nine straight from 1992-96.
Last time vs. Colorado
Maurice Baker scored a game-high 16 points and the Cowboy defense limited Colorado to just 33.9 percent shooting as OSU defeated the Buffs, 64-55, last season in Stillwater. Ivan McFarlin added 12 points for Oklahoma State on 6-of-8 shooting, while Fredrik J?nz?n scored 11 and grabbed nine rebounds. The Cowboys trailed CU, 32-27, at intermission thanks to a meager 33.3 percent shooting from the floor, including just 1-of-10 from beyond the arc. However, the Pokes shot much better in the second stanza, connecting on 14-of-31 shots from the field. David Harrison led Colorado with 13 points, while Stephane Pelle added 11 and 13 rebounds. Blair Wilson also had 11 points off the bench for CU.
20 Wins Becoming the Norm at OSU
With Oklahoma State's 82-77 victory over Texas on Feb. 22, the Cowboys reached the 20-win mark for the sixth-consecutive season and the 11th time in the Sutton era. It is just the second time in school history that OSU has won 20 or more games in six-straight years, the other being from 1943-44 until 1948-49. With this year under his belt, Coach Sutton now has 23 20-win seasons in his career, tying Adolph Rupp for the sixth-most in NCAA Division I history and the fourth-most by an active coach. Jim Boeheim of Syracuse and Arizona's Lute Olson have already won 20 games this season, giving them both 25 seasons of 20 or more wins. Bob Knight's Texas Tech Red Raiders are at 16 wins, but he already has 24 seasons of 20 or more wins in his pocket.
