STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's men's tennis team defeated Abilene Christian University, 6-1, on Tuesday at the DeBois Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla.
The Cowboys (8-2) took an early 1-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches.
Junior Yevgen Bondarchuk and freshman Jiri Spousta teamed up at No. 1 doubles to beat Julier Curatella and Jason Ray, 8-2. Sophomore Mark Van Elden and senior Jiri Jezek defeated Trent Broach and Evan Puglia, 8-4, at the No. 2 doubles spot. Sophomore Boris Kuharic and freshman Juan Felipe Diaz defeated Sal Taweel and Jason Purser, 8-3, at the No. 3 doubles position.
OSU captured the next four team points from singles play to take a 5-0 lead and secure the win.
Jezek breezed through the No. 4 singles match against Ray winning 6-0, 6-0. Kuharic defeated Clayton Morgan in straight sets at the No. 3 singles spot, 6-1, 6-1. Felipe Diaz defeated Purser at the No. 6 singles position, 6-1, 6-2.
Spousta won at the No. 5 singles spot over Puglia, 6-1, 6-0. Bondarchuk defeated Curatella at the No. 1 singles position, 7-5, 6-2. The lone Cowboys loss came at the No. 2 singles spot where freshman Tomas Bohunicky fell to Broach, 6-1, 6-4.
The Cowboys will return to action on Thursday when they host Texas A&M at 2 p.m.
