Dallas, Texas - Oklahoma State had three players named to the All-Big 12 Specialty teams, it was announced today, in a voted of sportswriters that regularly cover Big 12 basketball.
Tony Allen, a junior-college transfer from Wabash Valley Community College, was named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer team. Tony is averaging 14.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in his first Division I season at OSU. He also has 78 assists, 56 steals and 24 blocked shots this season. He has twice been named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week, and was recently named to the second team of the NABC All-District 12 squad.
Cheyne Gadson, a senior for the Cowboys, was named to the Big 12 All-Reserve team. A key contributor off the bench, Gadson is averaging 5.7 points and 3.2 assists per contest. He also has 58 rebounds and 19 steals.
Melvin Sanders, considered by many as one of the top defensive stoppers in the country, was named to the Big 12 All-Defense squad. The 6-5 senior was regularly assigned to the opposing team's most active scorer. Not only a defensive specialist, Sanders also improved his offensive game, averaging 13.5 points per game this season, including a career-high 30 vs. Baylor.
These three and the rest of the Cowboys will face either Missouri or Nebraska on Friday, March 14, at 2:20 p.m. in the Big 12 Tournament at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
