COWGIRL BASKETBALL READY FOR BEDLAM ON SENIOR DAY
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (7-18 overall, 3-11 Big 12) will close out its home slate on Saturday when Oklahoma (17-10, 8-6) comes calling for a 1 p.m. contest. The game will be the last inside Gallagher-Iba Arena for three seniors-Chantoya Hawkins, Shelby Hutchens and Thia Willis-and will be televised on Fox Sports Net.
ABOUT THE SOONERS
Oklahoma comes to town riding a two-game winning streak after defeating Missouri, 74-69, on Wednesday. Junior Maria Villarroel is the squad's top scorer at 15.3 points per outing and is connecting on 59 percent of her shots. Three other players; Chelsi Welch, Dionnah Jackson and Theresa Schuknecht are all averaging double figures as well. Jackson is also tops on the squad with 135 assists and 56 steals, while Schuknecht sits atop the rebounding chart at 6.6 per game. The Sooners won the first Bedlam matchup on Feb. 9, defeating the Cowgirls 87-71 in Norman to post their eighth straight win in the series. For OU, Schuknecht had a big game off the bench, scoring 28 points and pulling seven rebounds in just 25 minutes, while Chelsi Welch added 17 points. Trisha Skibbe poured in 23 points for the Cowgirls on 8-of-13 shooting. OSU's last win against OU came at the 1999 Big 12 Tournament, a 70-56 triumph. The Cowgirls hold a 16-13 mark all-time in Stillwater, however, the Sooners own a 36-34 lead in the overall series.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cowgirls picked up their first road win of the season on Wednesday night, defeating Texas A&M, 68-48, at Reed Arena. OSU, which was 0-8 previously on the road, opened with a 15-4 run in the first half behind nine points from Thia Willis, who finished the contest with a season-high 21 points, and never looked back. Trisha Skibbe finished with 26 points and 14 boards to record her seventh double-double of the season.
