COWGIRL BASKETBALL RETURNS HOME TO FACE TEXAS
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (5-15 overall, 1-8 Big 12) returns home for a midweek battle against Texas (15-5 and 8-1) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cowgirls will be attempting to snap a six-game losing streak, while the Longhorns will be in search of their sixth consecutive win in the series.
ABOUT THE LONGHORNS
The nationally-ranked Longhorns come to town having won three straight contests after defeating Kansas, 89-47, on Saturday. While sporting a 12-0 record at home this season, Texas is 3-5 away from the Erwin Center, but has won three of its four Big 12 road contests. UT's balanced attack features four players in double figures in the scoring column, led by Stacy Stephens (13.7ppg) and Heather Schreiber (13.2 ppg). Schreiber is also the squad's top rebounder (8.5 rpg) and is followed closely by Stephens (8.3 pg). The two teams met in the conference opener on Jan. 8 in Austin with the Longhorns prevailing, 77-44. Despite battling a stomach virus, OSU's Trisha Skibbe led all scorers with 20 points, while Stephens turned in a double-double (14 pts, 10 rbs.) in just 22 minutes of action. With the win, UT moved to 13-3 all-time against the Cowgirls and owns a 4-2 advantage in Stillwater. OSU's last victory over the Horns came on Jan. 12, 2000, a 71-69 triumph inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
LAST TIME OUT
OSU saw its losing streak extended to six games on Sunday after falling, 87-71, to Oklahoma in front of 6,642 fans at the Lloyd Noble Center. For just the second time this season, the Cowgirls broke the 70-point barrier and had four players; Trisha Skibbe, Shelby Hutchens, Chantoya Hawkins and Thia Willis, reach double figures in the scoring column. Skibbe led the way with 23 points, while Hutchens added 12 points to go with a season-high eight rebounds. Hawkins played all 40 minutes in the loss, tallying 11 points, six rebounds and a season-high seven assists.
