2002-03 (Freshman): Onye did not play during the postseason ... played two minutes vs. Texas A&M ... played five minutes at Colorado ... scored two points and had two rebounds in three minutes vs. Kansas ... played one minute at the end of the game vs. Texas ... got in at the end of the Missouri game ... had two rebounds in OSU's win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi ... had two points and two rebounds vs. Arkansas ... recorded one rebound vs. UMKC ... Had a season-high three points, one rebound and one assist vs. Northwestern State ... played four minutes vs. Hartford ... had a season-high four rebounds, along with two points in 11 minutes in his collegiate debut vs. Alaska-Anchorage.
High School: Onye enjoyed a standout prep career at Crenshaw High School, lettering all four seasons for coach Willie West ... was also the team captain his senior year ... an all-league selection and a McDonald's All-America nominee ... statistics included 16 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks and two steals per game his senior year ... Crenshaw finished as co-Coliseum League champions ... lettered two years in football and track & field at Crenshaw High ... playing for the AAU H-Squad out of L.A., had some impressive performances at the Las Vegas Desert Shootout, the adidas Texas Classic and the Houston Kingwood Classic during the spring of 2002 ... averaged 22 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks per game ... passed up a chance to showcase his skills on the national level prior to his senior season when he missed the ABCD Camp ... spent that time visiting Nigeria, the native country of his parents ... received looks from several schools early, including USC, Pepperdine and Boston College, and chose OSU over Oklahoma, SMU and UCLA.
Personal: Born Jan. 19, 1984, in Los Angeles, Onye is the son of Austin and Agatha Ibekwe. He has a brother, Ekene, a freshman at Maryland, and two sisters, Chinyere and Ify. Onye enjoys spending time on computers, interacting with people and traveling in his spare time. He is undeclared on his major at Oklahoma State.
