COWGIRLS OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY ON THE ROAD AGAINST TEXAS
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (4-7) will open Big 12 action on the road Wednesday night when it travels to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns at 7 p.m. OSU is coming off its biggest win under head coach Julie Goodenough after stunning No. 9 Arkansas, 60-58, at the buzzer last Thursday. The Cowgirls will be looking to win back-to-back contests for the first time this season and end a five-game losing skid against the Longhorns.
ABOUT THE LONGHORNS
Texas (7-4) will look to rebound from Sunday's 70-66 loss at Ohio State. The Longhorns enter Wednesday night's contest sporting a 7-0 record at home. Sophomore forward Heather Schreiber leads UT offensively, averaging 13.1 points per contest to go along with 7.6 rebounds per outing. Junior center Stacy Stephens is pulling a team-best 8.3 rebounds and is second on the squad in scoring at 12.8 points per contest. After sweeping the season series last year, including a 90-56 triumph in Austin, the Longhorns own a 12-3 advantage overall.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cowgirls opened the new year by stunning No. 8/9 Arkansas 60-58 on Thursday night in Stillwater. Freshman Meghan Craig's eight-foot jumper at the buzzer proved to be the difference as the Cowgirls improved to 8-1 all-time at home against the Lady'Backs and registered their third win over a top-10 opponent in the last two seasons. Freshman Lori Allen led the way for OSU, pouring in 14 points to go with a team-best nine rebounds and four assists.
