COWGIRL BASKETBALL TRAVELS TO LUBBOCK TO FACE NO. 7 TEXAS TECH
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (5-9, 1-2) heads to Texas Tech on Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest against nationally-ranked Texas Tech (14-1, 3-0). The Cowgirls are coming off their first conference win of the season after defeating Kansas, 60-56, on Wednesday night, while the Lady Raiders are fresh off an 80-71 win at Oklahoma on Wednesday. Saturday's contest will be televised by Fox Sports Net with Kevin Eschenfelder and Brenda Van Lengen calling the action.
ABOUT THE LADY RAIDERS
After dropping its season opener to Louisiana Tech, Texas Tech has reeled off 14 consecutive victories, giving the Lady Raiders the longest current unbeaten streak in the Big 12. Senior Plenette Pierson is Tech's leading scorer (17.9 ppg) and is followed by junior Jia Perkins' 16.2 points per outing. Freshman Erin Grant has been impressive in her first season, dishing out a team-best 109 assists. After falling, 62-51, in Lubbock last season, the Cowgirls snapped an 11-game losing streak in the series by stunning then-No. 16 Tech, 58-55, in Stillwater. OSU got a 19-point performance from Tari Cummings, including a three-point play with 8.2 seconds remaining to put the Cowgirls in front and overcome a 10-point second-half deficit. The Lady Raiders hold a 14-11 advantage in the series, including a 7-3 mark in Lubbock.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cowgirls fought off a second-half rally by the Kansas Jayhawks on Wednesday night to pick up a 60-56 win, their first conference win under the direction of Julie Goodenough. OSU built a 20-point lead in the second half before KU began to chip away, trimming the margin to two points with 2:04 remaining in the game. A defensive rebound and subsequent free throws by senior Chantoya Hawkins, who finished with eight points, four assists and five steals, with 30 seconds remaining sealed the victory. Junior Trisha Skibbe reached the 20-point mark for the third consecutive game, finishing with 21 points and eight rebounds, both game highs.
