Stillwater, Okla. - Matt Herring, a strength and conditioning coach at the University of Texas the last two seasons, has joined the Cowboy Basketball staff, it was announced today. He will be the strength and conditioning coach for the Cowboy basketball program.
"I am extremely excited about working with one of the top-tier teams in college basketball," said Herring. "Oklahoma State is one of those teams. This is an excellent opportunity for me and for my future."
Herring was an intern in strength and conditioning with the Texas basketball program for the last two seasons, and spent last year as an assistant coach and the strength and conditioning coach for the men's basketball team at St. Edward's University in Austin.
"We are very excited about Matt joining our staff," said OSU Associate Head Coach Sean Sutton. "He possesses a great deal of knowledge in the area of strength and conditioning, and we feel he will be a very positive influence on our program. Being a former basketball player, he understands the importance of strength and conditioning to a team's success. He will have a tremendous relationship with our players."
Prior to his stint as a strength and conditioning coach, Herring was a teacher in the Schertz school district in Schertz, Texas, a suburb of San Antonio. He was at Schertz for five years, from 1994-99.
A native of Austin, Texas, Herring earned his bachelor's degree in exercise sports science from Southwest Texas in 1994. He achieved his M.Ed. in kinesiology from the University of Texas in May of 2002. He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
