Phylesha Whaley Named To Cowgirl Basketball Staff

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team has announced the addition of former Big 12 Player of the Year Phylesha Whaley as the program's Director of Basketball Operations.
"We are extremely excited to add Phylesha Whaley to our staff," Cowgirl Head Coach Julie Goodenough said. "She is well known across the state and with her playing and coaching experience she will be an invaluable asset."
Whaley, who spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Texas-San Antonio, joined the coaching ranks after an impressive four-year career at the University of Oklahoma.
While at OU, Whaley earned first-team All-Big 12 honors three times as well as All-America plaudits her senior year. The Slaton, Texas, native was chosen as the conference's top player in 2000 after leading the Sooners to a 25-8 record, their first Big 12 regular season title and a NCAA Sweet 16 appearance.
The first Kodak All-America candidate in school history, Whaley was OU's leading scorer in each of her four seasons and was the squad's top rebounder three times. Following her senior year, she was a third-round pick (38th overall) in the WNBA draft by the Minnesota Lynx, making her the Sooners' first-ever professional draft pick.
"I am really excited to get the chance to come to a great school like Oklahoma State," Whaley said. "With Coach Goodenough being here, I am looking forward to the opportunity to be a part of a new tradition and be able to pick up new ideas from someone who has been a head coach for nine years."
