STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team has named three assistant coaches to its staff it was announced today by Cowgirl Head Coach Julie Goodenough.
Rob Edmisson, Amy Gusso, and Lance Hughey will comprise Goodenough's staff for the upcoming season.
Edmisson comes to the Cowgirl program after serving as the head coach at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College. He led the Lady Blue Dragons to a 200-77 record in nine seasons and a pair of Jayhawk West Conference runner-up finishes in 1996 and 1998.
During his tenure at HCC, Edmisson coached 25 all-conference players, nine All-Americans and 14 academic All-Americans. He also enjoyed head coaching stints at Ellinwood (Kan.) and Fairfield (Kan.) High Schools after starting his coaching career as an assistant at Doan College in Nebraska.
"Coach Edmisson developed a powerhouse at Hutchinson and he produced a stellar record with his team's athletic and academic achievements," Goodenough said. "He brings a wealth of college coaching and recruiting experience to our program."
Gusso joined the OSU staff as an assistant coach last season after spending the 2000-01 campaign in the same capacity at Texas-San Antonio. Prior to her season at UTSA, she worked as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
A four-year letterwinner at Nebraska, Gusso was a two-time Academic All-Big 12 selection for the Huskers, earning the distinction in 1997 and 1998.
"In talking to Coach Gusso early on, I found our coaching philosophies to be very similar," Goodenough said. "Our intensity and competitiveness are just alike and that makes her a great fit for our staff."
In three seasons at the helm of the Grapeland (Texas) High School program, Hughey led his squads to a pair of district championships and an overall record of 60-35. In his first season, he led GHS to a 22-9 mark and a berth in the regional semifinals.
Hughey spent three seasons as a student assistant coach at Hardin-Simmons before a two-year stint as a graduate assistant upon receiving his degree. During that time, HSU posted an 85-41 record while capturing three conference championships and advancing to the round of 16 at the 1999 NCAA Division III Tournament.
"Coach Hughey is the closest thing to a full-time assistant I have ever had. His loyalty and work ethic will be unmatched," Goodenough said. "He is very good with the Xs and Os of basketball and has a great mind for the game."
