STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's softball team dropped its second game to Nebraska, 2-1, Sunday at Cowgirl Stadium. OSU out hit the Huskers six to three, but was unable to take advantage of scoring opportunities.
The Huskers took the lead in the top of the first on a Nicole Trimboli double to left field that scored Kim Ogee. Nebraska added what would prove to be the game winning run in the top of the fourth. Leigh Suhr got things started with a double deep into center field and Peaches James brought her home with a well placed single down the right field line.
The Cowgirls were not able to muster any offense until the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Jade Lindly cut the Husker lead to one, hitting her 10th home run of the season and tying the record set in 1997 by Jamie Foutch.
Megan Carey reached on a base hit and it looked as if OSU would make another late rally. In an attempt to stifle the Cowgirl momentum Nebraska made a pitching change, bringing in Peaches James, the winning pitcher on Saturday.
Calli Behmer knocked a shot down the left field line and Carey advanced to second. Nebraska catcher, Amber Burgess, turned the momentum, picking Carey off at second for out number two. Lauren Bay flew out to right field to end the game and the Huskers held their winning streak in tact at 22.
Bay (13-7) took the loss for the Cowgirls, striking out eight, walking five and allowing two runs.
The Cowgirls (20-11) return to action next weekend, when they travel to Missouri to take on the Tigers. The two teams will meet at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 29 and on Saturday, March 30, at 1 p.m.
