COWGIRLS TRAVEL TO KANSAS CITY FOR BIG 12 TOURNAMENT
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (15-14 overall, 7-9 Big 12) will
open postseason play on Tuesday when it takes on Texas A&M (13-15, 5-11) at
noon in the first game of the Big 12 Tournament.
The Cowgirls, who enter as the event's No. 8 seed, closed out the regular
season with a 62-49 win over the ninth-seeded Aggies last Wednesday in
College Station.
The win evened the season series against A&M after the Aggies prevailed 70-65 in Stillwater on Feb. 5.
OSU owns a 16-5 record in the all-time series against Texas A&M, including wins in six of the last seven meetings between the two squads.
The winner of Tuesday's matchup will advance to take on top-seeded Oklahoma at noon on Wednesday.
BIG 12 TOURNAMENT HISTORY
In five seasons, the Cowgirls are 4-5 all-time in the Big 12 Tournament with
their top finish coming in 1998, as they posted a 2-1 record and tied for
third place. The Cowgirls have been ousted in the first round twice (1997
and 2001) to finish tied for ninth and have notched 1-1 finishes twice (1999
and 2000) to tie for fifth.
LAST TIME OUT
OSU closed out the regular season with a 62-49 road win against Texas A&M on
Wednesday night. Trisha Skibbe poured in 23 second-half points on her way to
a career-high 30 to help the Cowgirls overcome 31 turnovers and a one-point
halftime deficit. In just 31 minutes of action, Skibbe had a pair of steals
and grabbed 12 rebounds on her way to her eighth double-double of the
season. Senior Tari Cummings notched her second double-double of the season
with 12 points and a season-high 14 rebounds. OSU, which evened the season
series with the Aggies, held A&M to a 27 percent shooting effort, including
a 1-of-16 (six percent) night from beyond the three-point arc. The win was
the Cowgirls fifth consecutive triumph in College Station.
