WICHITA, Kan. - Oklahoma State's 25th-ranked softball team won the first of three road games here Tuesday, defeating Wichita State, 2-0.
The Cowgirls scored two runs in the top of the first and it proved to be enough to claim the win. Jenny Kipp led off the inning with a walk and advanced on a Casey O'Neill sacrifice bunt. Ryan Realmuto followed with her second triple of the season, knocking the pitch deep into right field and scoring Kipp.
Realmuto scored the final run of the game, crossing the plate on a Shocker error to give OSU a 2-0 advantage.
Wichita State put together a scoring threat in the bottom of the second when April Arata led off with a single to right center and advanced on a Jody Lupo ground-out. Cami Carter then struck out Carla Torres for out number two.
An error by the Cowgirls allowed Stacy Knight to get on base and advanced Arata to third. Carter was able to hold onto the shutout, striking out Audrey Walters for the final out.
Carter (8-3) picked up the win on the mound, fanning seven batters and allowing two hits en route picking up her second shutout of the season.
The Cowgirls (19-8) return to action Wednesday at 1 p.m., when they open conference play with a doubleheader against the Jayhawks in Lawrence, Kan.
