COWGIRLS TRAVEL TO AUSTIN TO BATTLE NATIONALLY-RANKED TEXAS
Oklahoma State's Cowgirl basketball team (11-12 overall, 3-7 Big 12) will
look to end a three-game losing streak on Saturday when it travels to Austin
to take on the No. 15/17 Texas Longhorns (14-7, 6-5) at 7 p.m.
OSU is coming off a 70-65 loss at home on Tuesday against Texas A&M, while UT is looking to end a four-game slide of its own. Since posting a 77-64 win over the Cowgirls in Stillwater on Jan. 16, the Longhorns have lost five of their last six games.
Sophomore Stacy Stephens leads the way for Texas and is nearly averaging a double-double (15.2 ppg, 9.9 rpg). Freshman Heather Schreiber has been UT's top threat beyond the three-point line, drilling 41 percent (33-of-80) of her shots from the arc.
The Horns have posted four consecutive wins against the Cowgirls to up their lead in the all-time series to 11-3. OSU's lone win in Austin came on Feb. 25, 1998 (69-66). Last season, the Cowgirls suffered a 64-43 loss at the Erwin Center as four UT starters scored in double figures.
COMING UP
OSU will return home for a pair of games. The Cowgirls will host Texas Tech on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. before taking on Iowa State on Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. OSU suffered a 62-51 loss to the Lady Raiders on Jan. 23 in Lubbock. Jia Perkins scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half to help Tech pull away and win its 11th straight against the Cowgirls.
Chantoya Hawkins and Trisha Skibbe led OSU with 13 points apiece.
LAST TIME OUT
On Tuesday night, Texas A&M opened the second half with a 16-2 run to erase
a four-point halftime deficit on their way to a 70-65 win over OSU. The
Aggies built the lead to 15 points before the Cowgirls whittled the deficit
down to three with 36 seconds remaining, but could get now closer. A&M's Meg
Banahan led all scorers with 23 points, while Trisha Skibbe paced OSU with
18 points and seven rebounds.
