Softballers Split at Louisville Slugger

TEMPE, Ariz. - Oklahoma State's softball team lost its first game of the season Saturday here in the Louisville Slugger Classic, to tournament host Arizona State.
In the first game, Oklahoma State defeated Illinois State, 6-4. Illinois State struck first, scoring its first run in the bottom of the first inning on a base hit by Corey Harris.
The Cowgirls were sparked by a Stephanie Hodges three-run dinger in the top of the fourth, scoring Ryan Realmuto and Jade Lindly.
Casey O'Neill led off the fifth inning for the Cowgirls with a double and Jenny Kipp followed with a double of her own. Realmuto stepped up to the plate and hit a two-run home run, her fourth of the season, to give the Cowgirls a 6-1 advantage.
On the mound, Lauren Bay picked up her fifth win of the season, striking out five batters and giving up four hits.
In the nightcap, the Cowgirls suffered their first loss of the season, a 1-0 setback to eighth-ranked Arizona State. The Sun Devils scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth on a base hit by Kara Brun to bring Missy Hixon home.
Bay recorded six strikeouts and two walks while allowing seven hits in the game.
"It was a well played ball game," said Head Coach Margaret Rebenar. "We did not execute in certain areas at key times, but overall the girls are playing well and we are proud of them."
Oklahoma State (8-1) will face sixth-ranked Iowa for the second time this weekend at 9 a.m. Sunday to wrap up the Louisville Slugger Classic.
