Cowgirl Softball Falls to Iowa

TEMPE, Ariz. - Oklahoma State's softball team fell to sixth-ranked Iowa, 2-0, here Sunday in the Louisville Slugger Classic.
The Cowgirls struggled offensively against the Hawkeyes, getting just two hits off pitcher Kristi Hanks. Hanks struck out six Cowgirls and walked one en route to her first victory of the season.
Iowa struck early, scoring its first run in the bottom of the first inning. Kristin Johnson led off the inning with a single and stole second. Liz Dennis and Lori Leon each followed with base hits to bring Johnson home.
In the fifth inning, Johnson (2-3, 1 RBI, 1 run) hit a double to score Jessica Bashor and give Iowa the final 2-0 advantage over the Cowgirls.
On the mound, Cami Carter pitched 4-2/3 innings for OSU, allowing six hits and striking out one batter. Lauren Bay came on in relief and recorded three strikeouts while giving up one hit.
Oklahoma State falls to 8-2 on the year after jumping out to a 8-0 start. The Cowgirls return home to Cowgirl Stadium to face Eastern Oklahoma State on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 3 p.m. for a doubleheader.
