Cowgirls Sweep Connors State in Exhibition Action

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's softball team swept Connors State in a doubleheader scrimmage this afternoon at Cowgirl Stadium. The scrimmage was originally scheduled for last week, but was postponed due to weather.
The Cowgirls won the first game of the day, 6-2, in seven innings. Leadoff batter Jenny Kipp, put the Cowgirls on the board with a solo home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the first inning. OSU scored two in the second when senior Casey O'Neill hit a double to knock Kipp home. Junior Lauren Bay followed with a double of her own to score O'Neill and give the Cowgirls a 3-0 advantage.
Connors State answered in the top of the third with five consecutive base hits to score two runs. OSU scored the final two runs of the game in the fourth inning when sophomore Jade Lindly hit a double to send Bay and O'Neill home.
Sophomore Amber Annis picked up the victory on the mound, recording five strikeouts and giving up 10 hits in five innings. Bay came on in the sixth and had six strikeouts while allowing one hit.
Sophomore Kara Wentworth and junior Cami Carter threw a combined no-hitter in the second game. Wentworth pitched 2-2/3 innings, striking out three strikouts with two walks. Carter came into the game for the final 4-1/3 innings and had three strikeouts.
Bay led off the first inning by reaching first on an error and later scoring on a single to centerfield by freshman Megan Carey. Senior Summer Younk hit a double in the fourth, scoring sophomore Calli Behmer, giving the Cowgirls a two-run lead. OSU closed out the game strong, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth to gain the final 6-0 advantage.
Oklahoma State returns to action this weekend, when it travels to Tempe, Ariz., to compete in the Louisville Slugger, hosted by Arizona State, Feb. 15-17.
