Cowgirl Softball Picks Up Two Wins in Tempe

TEMPE, Ariz. - Oklahoma State's softball team picked up two wins and remained undefeated Friday here in the Louisville Slugger Classic, hosted by Arizona State.
In the first game, Oklahoma State defeated Michigan State,14-1, in five innings. Both teams were held scoreless until the Cowgirls went on a scoring frenzy in the top of the fourth. Jade Lindly hit her fifth home run of the season to score Ryan Realmuto. Five consecutive base hits by the Cowgirls were capped off by a three-run home run by Megan Carey.
On the second rotation of the batting order, Jenny Kipp hit a double with two outs to bring Calli Behmer and Casey O'Neill home and give the Cowgirls a 13-0 lead.
Freshman Heather Been hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth to score the 14th Cowgirl run of the game. Michigan State avoided the shutout on a home run by Robyn Golden in the bottom of the fifth.
Cami Carter picked up the win for OSU, facing 11 batters and striking out five while allowing three hits.
In game two, the Cowgirls defeated sixth-ranked Iowa, 8-3. OSU scored early on a two-run home run by Carey, her second of the day. In the third inning, Jade Lindly and Stephanie Hodges each picked up an RBI on base hits that scored Lauren Bay and Realmuto. Calli Behmer followed with a three-run dinger to score Lindly and Hodges and give the Cowgirls a 7-0 advantage.
Iowa's Christina Schmaltz hit a double in the top of the fourth to score three runs and bring the Hawkeyes within four. OSU scored its final run on a Behmer single in the bottom of the fifth.
On the mound, Bay went the duration for the Cowgirls, recording seven strikeouts and allowing three hits.
The Cowgirls (7-0) will play Illinois State at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by eight-ranked Arizona State at 5:30 p.m.
