Cowgirls Sweep Eastern Oklahoma State In Exhibition Action

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's softball team won both games here Thursday in exhibition action vs Eastern Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls defeated the Lady Mountaineers, 9-0, and 12-2.
In game one, Casey O'Neill had a double in the bottom of the first to provide an early spark for the Cowgirls. Ryan Realmuto followed with a base hit to bring O'Neill home. Stephanie Hodges continued the play with a double to left field to score Realmuto and give the Cowgirls a 2-0 advantage after one inning.
With two outs in the fifth, Calli Behmer hit a single to right field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ashley Grider added a base hit to score Behmer. Jamie Koshmider and Nicci Quiroz each had base hits to put Grider in scoring position and she crossed the plate on a second wild to give OSU a 6-0 lead.
Cowgirl batters went 5-for-5 in the sixth inning before the game was called. O'Neill led off with a single and Teresa Ritchie followed with a triple to score O'Neill. Realmuto and Hodges had with a single and a double, respectively. The final batter of the game, Behmer, hit a double to left field to bring Hodges and Realmuto home and give the Cowgirls the final 9-0 advantage.
Kara Wentworth started the game for OSU, striking out two and allowing two hits in three innings. Cami Carter came on in relief in the fourth and faced the minimum, striking out four batters and allowing no hits.
In the second game, Eastern Oklahoma led off with two base hits and later socred on an error to take an early 2-0 lead.
OSU was quick to retaliate with three runs in the bottom of the inning. O'Neill reached base on a single to shortstop and Jamie Koshmider on a fielders choice. Jade Lindly hit a single to center field and collected two RBIs, scoring O'Neill and Koshmider. Lindly later stole second and crossed the plate on an error to put the Cowgirls up 3-2 at the end of one.
The Cowgirls exploded for five runs in the second. O'Neill started the scoring frenzy with a RBI single and scored on an error by the shortstop. The highlight of the inning was a two-run home run by Lindly. Koshmider, a pinch runner for Hodges, scored the final run of the inning on an error by the left fielder.
The Cowgirl bats were hot once again in the third inning, with four runs scored. With two outs, Koshmider collected a RBI on a single that brought Carey home. Afton Burris followed with a double to score Koshmider and Behmer and give the Cowgirls the final, 12-2 lead.
On the mound, Amber Annis went the duration for the Cowgirls. Annis struck out four batters and allowed four hits in five innings.
Oklahoma State returns to action Friday, when it hosts Tulsa at 4 p.m. to open the home portion of its regular season.
