Oklahoma State's Cowgirl basketball team (13-13 overall, 5-8 Big 12) will look to run its winning streak to three games when it travels to Lincoln, Neb., for a Wednesday showdown with the Nebraska Cornhuskers (14-12, 4-9) at 7 p.m.
The Cowgirls are coming off their second straight win against a nationally-ranked team after defeating then-No. 10 Iowa State, 64-63, on Sunday in Stillwater. The Cowgirls knocked off then-No. 16 Texas Tech earlier in the week. Senior Tari Cummings was tabbed the Big 12 Player of the Week for her play during the two-game stretch.
Nebraska will be looking to rebound from an 81-47 setback to Oklahoma over the weekend. The Huskers had won two in a row, including a 67-52 win over nationally-ranked Kansas State, before their loss to the Sooners.
Junior guard Keasha Cannon is the lone Husker scoring in double figures (13.4 ppg) and leads the squad in rebounding, grabbing 8.5 boards per contest.
OSU won last year's contest in Stillwater 77-66 to cut NU's lead in the series to 25-22. However, the Huskers have won the last three meetings in Lincoln, including a 75-71 overtime triumph on Feb. 22, 2000. The Cowgirls last road win in the series came in 1995.
COMING UP
OSU will return home to take on Baylor on Sunday at 1 p.m. in a Fox
Sports Net telecast. In the first outing between the two squads this season,
the Lady Bears came away with an 80-62 win, getting a 24-point, 10-assist
performance from All-American Sheila Lambert.
GIANT SLAYER
Oklahoma State knocked off its second consecutive ranked opponent on Sunday,
downing No. 10 Iowa State, 64-63. Sophomore Trisha Skibbe recorded her sixth
double-double, tallying 21 points and 11 rebounds. The Oxford, Kan., native
scored the game-winner with 3.8 seconds left and blocked ISU's last-second
shot attempt to seal the win. Senior Tari Cummings chipped in with 18
points. The win marked the first time in school history that OSU defeated
ranked opponents in consecutive outings and gave the Cowgirls their first
back-to-back conference wins this season. OSU has defeated three Top-25
foes, No. 16 Texas Tech and No. 9 Kansas State being the others, this
season.
