Cowgirl Basketball Opens Goodenough Era With Exhibition Against TJ Sokol

COWGIRLS OPEN THE GOODENOUGH ERA WITH EXHIBITION AGAINST TJ SOKOL Oklahoma State's women's basketball team will begin the Julie Goodenough Era on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. when TJ Sokol, a club team from Hradec Kr?lov?, Czech Republic, comes to town for the first of OSU's two exhibition contests. Goodenough takes the reins of the Cowgirl program after leading Hardin-Simmons over the past nine seasons, marking the first time since the 1983-84 season that the Cowgirls will open the season with a new head coach. The Cowgirls went 1-1 in exhibition action last year, opening the season with an 83-48 victory over Spartak Moscow before falling to the Houston Jaguars, 57-54
ABOUT TJ SOKOL Wednesday's contest will mark the first of nine games TJ Sokol will play during its trip through the United States. Founded in 1947, the 11-player squad has competed over the last five seasons in the Division I Czech Women's League. The team posted its highest division finish in 1996, placing third. In three of its five seasons, TJ Sokol has placed fifth in league play. Last season, the club finished fourth in the Czech Republic's highest league.
LAST TIME OUT OSU closed out the 2001-02 season with an 87-56 loss to eventual national runner-up Oklahoma in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City. With the loss, the Cowgirls saw the college careers of five seniors; Jessica Bates, Tari Cummings, Kara Faulk, Nikki Lawrence and Terrisha Osborn, draw to a close. With the setback, the Cowgirls fell to 16-15 overall for the second consecutive season.
