Oklahoma State opens the 2002-03 season Tuesday as the Cowboys host Global Sports in exhibition action. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Global Sports is 1-5 six games into its run throughout the country.

Last Time Out For Global Sports
George Banks scored 18 points and Donte Mathis added 11 off the bench of 5-of-5 shooting, but Creighton had a trio of double-figure scorers and the Bluejays defeated Global Sports, 83-61, Sunday night in Omaha, Neb. Banks was 7-of-16 from the floor and had a game-high six rebounds as Global Sports fell for the fifth time in six games. Banks, who joined the team for their second game of their season, leads the teamwith an 18.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game average. Daniel Watts, who played collegiately at Nevada-Reno, is second on the squad, averaging 8.7 points and 5.2 boards per contest. A couple of Big 12 alumni, Texas' Fredie Williams and Cary Cochran of Nebraska, are also on Global Sports' roster. The team is coached by Maury Hanks and Clay Moser.
About the Cowboys
Oklahoma State enters its 94th season of basketball with an all-time record of 1,317 wins and 952 losses, a .580 winning percentage. The Cowboys have won two national championships (1945-46), appeared in five Final Fours, and made 19 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including 10 in the Sutton era. In fact, Coach Sutton has more wins (272) in his 12 years as the OSU head coach than the previous five coaches had (242) in a combined 20 seasons.
Last Time Out For OSU
Oklahoma State held an intrasquad scrimmage on Sunday afternoon, and had several positive results. The Dark team (consisting of mostly starters) had lost to the Light team in two previous scrimmages. However, on Sunday, the Dark team defeated the Light team, 113-64, after outscoring the Light team, 61-29, in the first half. Some statistical highlights included Melvin Sanders and Ivan McFarlin combining to shoot 20-of-28 from the floor. Sanders finished with 23 points, while McFarlin had 16 points and 14 rebounds. Cheyne Gadson had 11 assists and just two turnovers. The Dark team shot 70.8 percent from the floor while limiting the Light team to 35.9 percent.
Cowboys Open Exhibition Schedule
Oklahoma State opens its exhibition schedule on Tuesday night and looks extends its winning streak over exhibition opponents to four. OSU is currently 26-2 in exhibition action since 1988. Prior to 2000, the Cowboys had won 22-consecutive exhibition contests. The Cowboys lost to Athletes First by one point, 96-95, in 2000, but avenged that loss last year, defeating the Athletes First squad, 92-88. The 22-game win streak dates back to Nov. 22, 1988, when the Cowboys lost, 80-63, to an outstanding USSR team - led by Sharunas Marchulenis, Arvidas Sabonis and Alexandr Volkov - that team also defeated Kansas that month. Williams Ranks Among Elite Shot Blockers
Andre Williams enters his senior season with 129 career blocked shots, which ranks fifth on the all-time school list. Williams is 39 blocks away from moving past Leroy Combs and into fourth place on the list. Byron Houston is the all-time Cowboy shot blocker with 223, just eight ahead of Joe Atkinson.
Non-Conference Record in Gallagher-Iba
Oklahoma State enters the 2002-03 season having won 100 of its last 101 non-conference games held in Gallagher-Iba Arena since Jan. 7, 1987. The only loss during that span was an 83-81 loss to Florida Atlantic on Dec. 1, 1998, when the Cowboys were ranked 11th in the nation. That loss broke a string of 79-consecutive home non-league wins for OSU. Dating back the last 20 years to 1981, Oklahoma State is 129-7 (.949) in those types of games.

OSU will see its final exhibition action of the preseason on Monday, Nov. 18, when the Cowboys host the Branch West Basketball Academy. Tipoff is set for 7:05 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena. Included on its roster is Doug Gottlieb, former Oklahoma State Cowboy and all-time school assist leader.
Four Seniors Return For Final Season
Four Cowboys enter the 2002-03 season as seniors. Andre Williams, a senior from Kansas City, Kan., is the lone four-year senior on the squad. Victor Williams, Kansas City, Kan., and Melvin Sanders, Liberal, Kan., are both entering their third year of play at Oklahoma State. Cheyne Gadson, a senior from Jamaica, N.Y., transferred to OSU last season for his junior year.
Transfers, Jucos Dot Cowboy Roster
Eight newcomers are listed on the Oklahoma State roster, including three transfers that will have to sit out the 2002-03 season. Tony Allen, a junior-college player from Wabash Valley Community College, and Janavor Weatherspoon, a juco transfer from Odessa College, should make an immediate impact. Freshmen Ross DeRogatis, Onye Ibekwe and Julian Richardson could also see playing time. Daniel Bobik and the twins, Joey and Stevie Graham, will have to sit out a year after transferring from BYU and Central Florida. All three, however are allowed to practice with the team.
Cowboys Tabbed Sixth in Preseason Polls
Oklahoma State has been predicted to finish sixth in the Big 12 this season, according to both the media and the league coaches. Kansas was chosen to win the league in both polls, including seven first-place votes in the coaches poll and 16 in the media poll. Oklahoma came in second in both polls. Oklahoma State finished with 76 points in the coaches poll and 182 in the media poll. Texas (third), Missouri (fourth) and Texas Tech (fifth) have been selected ahead of OSU in both polls.
