COWGIRLS SET FOR BEDLAM CLASH AGAINST NATIONALLY-RANKED SOONERS
Oklahoma State's Cowgirl basketball team (9-5 overall, 1-0 Big 12) will
play the first of five consecutive contests against nationally-ranked foes
when it travels to Norman to take on the second-ranked Oklahoma Sooners
(12-1, 2-0) Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
OSU is coming off a 73-57 win over Missouri in its Big 12 opener on Sunday, while OU enters the matchup fresh off an 80-68 win at then-No. 9 Texas Tech.
The Sooners showcase an experience-laden lineup, as Sherri Coale's squad starts four seniors and one junior, including All-America candidates LaNeishea Caufield and Stacey Dales.
Oklahoma, whose lone loss came at the hands of top-ranked Connecticut on Dec. 22, is averaging 81.8 points per game and has outscored its opponents by an average of 18 points.
The Cowgirls hold a 34-32 lead in the all-time series and have won 11 times in Norman. However, OU has won the last four meetings between the two schools, including an 88-83 overtime thriller last season at the Lloyd Noble Center.
Wednesday's tilt will be the 550th for the Cowgirls under the direction of Dick Halterman. In 18 seasons, Halterman has posted a 20-20 mark against the Sooners.
The Sooner Sports Network, KSBI (Ch. 52) in Oklahoma City, KWBT (Ch. 19) in Tulsa, KSWO (Ch. 7) in Lawton and KOMI (Ch. 24) in Woodward, will televise the contest. Ed Murray will handle the play-by-play duties, while Jenny Bramer will provide color analysis.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cowgirls got a career-high 26 points from sophomore Trisha Skibbe on
their way to a 73-57 win over Missouri in OSU's Big 12 opener. Skibbe nailed
10 of her 11 shots from the field, including a clutch three-pointer to knot
the game during a 17-2 second-half run. Thia Willis also came up big for the
Cowgirls, drilling a pair of long three-pointers down the stretch and
grabbing a team-best six rebounds in just 13 minutes of action. Tari
Cummings chipped in with 22 points, connecting on 7-of-12 from the field and
8-of-8 from the line.
COMING UP
The Cowgirls will head to Boulder, Colo. on Saturday for a showdown with the
nationally-ranked Colorado Buffaloes at the Coors Events Center. Entering
Wednesday's contest at Kansas State, head coach Ceal Berry's squad holds an
overall record of 10-5 after suffering back-to-back losses to Oklahoma
(78-67) and Texas (70-68). The Buffs own a 22-19 advantage in the all-time
series after coming away with a 65-49 win last year in Stillwater.
