Oklahoma State Cowgirls (8-5, 0-0) vs. Missouri Tigers (9-2, 0-0)
COWGIRLS OPEN BIG 12 PLAY WITH HOME DATE AGAINST MISSOURI
Oklahoma State's Cowgirl basketball team (8-5) will open the Big 12
portion of its schedule on Sunday when the Missouri Tigers come calling for
a 2 p.m. contest at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Tigers (9-2) have won seven of their last eight games, including a 79-72 victory over Wisconsin-Green Bay on Dec. 30 in Columbia.
Mizzou is led by junior guard Kerensa Barr, who enters the contest averaging a team-high 16.9 points and is shooting 92 percent (60-of-65) from the free-throw line. The West Plains, Mo., native's sharp-shooting from the stripe has her atop the conference chart and 13th in the country. Barr has also dished out a team-best 52 assists on the season.
The squad's leading rebounder, sophomore forward Evan Unrau, is averaging 7.1 caroms per outing to go along with a 14.6 scoring average and a 52 percent (14-of-27) success rate beyond the three-point arc.
The Tigers hold a 22-18 advantage in the all-time series and are 3-0 against the Cowgirls during the tenure of head coach Cindy Stein.
During last season's matchup, OSU shot 47 percent and got a 22-point effort from Kara Faulk in Columbia. However, MU outscored the Cowgirls 40-32 over the final 20 minutes to escape with a 65-62 win at the Hearnes Center.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cowgirls got a career-high 22 points from sophomore Trisha Skibbe on
their way to a 77-42 win over Prairie View A&M to close out the
non-conference docket. Skibbe tamed the Panthers with 17 first-half points
and finished the game hitting 7-of-10 shots from the floor and produced at a
7-for-9 clip from the line. Despite shooting just 37.5 percent on the
night, OSU forced Prairie View into 27 turnovers and used runs of 9-2, 8-0
and 8-2 in the second half to put away the visitors.
COMING UP
The Cowgirls will travel down I-35 for the latest installment of the Bedlam
Series on Jan. 9 when they head to Norman to take on the third-ranked
Oklahoma Sooners at 7 p.m. OU enters this weekend with an 11-1 overall mark
after opening conference play with a 78-67 win over Colorado on Wednesday
night. The meeting will mark the 67th time the in-state rivals have squared
off with the Cowgirls holding a 34-32 advantage. However, the Sooners have
won 18 of the 29 meetings in Norman between the two schools.
