Saturday's Game
Oklahoma State hosts the Texas Longhorns in the conference season opener for both schools. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena. OSU is 13-0 and coming off an 82-70 win over Ball State last Saturday. UT is 8-4 and fresh off an 81-69 victory over UT-Pan American on Wednesday night. The Cowboys are ranked fifth in both major polls, while the Longhorns are receiving votes in the Coaches poll.
Last Time Out For Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State trailed Ball State, 37-34, at halftime, but the Cowboys shot 55.2 percent in the second period and ran away with an 82-70 victory over the Cardinals. Maurice Baker finished with a game-high 22 points and Ivan McFarlin recorded his third double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. OSU limited BSU, the nation's leading three-point team averaging 10.3 per game, to just seven treys on 33.3 percent shooting. The Cowboys, meanwhile, shot 50 percent from the floor and nearly 43 percent from beyond the arc. OSU also tied a season low with just 11 turnovers in the game. Victor Williams added 17 points for Oklahoma State while Fredrik J?nz?n had 12 and nine boards.
OSU-Texas on Television
Saturday's game with Texas will be televised as part of the Big 12 Conference's television package on ESPN-plus. Fred White will handle the play-by-play duties while Jon Sundvold will provide expert analysis. The game will be televised in Oklahoma City on KOCB-TV 34 and in Tulsa on the KWBT-19. In Stillwater, it will be on Cox Cable channel 11. Check local listings for other areas.
Last Time Out For Texas
Despite allowing Texas-Pan American to shoot nearly 52 percent from the floor, the Longhorns used the free-throw line as their friend in an 81-69 victory over UTPA on Wednesday night. Texas went to the line 14 more times than UT-Pan American, making 11 more free throws. UT led by 18 at halftime, 48-30, before UTPA shot 59.3 percent in the second stanza. Longhorn center James Thomas scored 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for Texas, while T.J. Ford and Brian Boddicker each chipped in 14. Ford also had eight assists. It was the first game for Texas without Chris Owens, who suffered a ruptured ACL in the previous game vs. Utah and is out for the season.
OSU-Texas: The Series
Texas leads the all-time series with Oklahoma State, 29-27. However, the Cowboys are 12-9 vs. the Longhorns in Stillwater. Since the Big 12 formed in 1996, UT has a 10-3 mark vs. OSU, including a current string of four consecutive. Texas won seven of the first eight meetings between the two schools which began in 1917, before Oklahoma State won 18-of-20 from 1924 until 1964. UT was 10-5 vs. the Cowboys from 1965 until 1988, the last game in almost a decade before the Big 12 was formed. Here is a look at the all-time series:

Oklahoma State will travel to Waco, Texas, next week as the Cowboys hook it up with the Baylor Bears (10-3 overall, 0-0 Big 12) on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m. in the Ferrell Center. Then its off to Ames, Iowa, as OSU plays the Iowa State Cyclones (8-6, 0-0) on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 4 p.m. That game will be televised on ESPN.
Last Time vs. Texas
Chris Owens scored 12 points and Brandon Mouton made the defensive play of the game as No. 20 Texas slipped past OSU, 55-54, to reach the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament. Texas had its lead cut to one when Maurice Baker hit his fourth three-pointer with 44 seconds to go. After Brian Boddicker missed from the baseline, Victor Williams got the rebound for OSU and passed to Baker. But, as Baker drove in for the potential go-ahead bucket, Mouton tied up the Cowboys' All-Big 12 guard and the Longhorns got the ball on the alternate possession. After a foul with 3.1 seconds left, Owens missed the front end of a one-and-one. But, Baker's desperation heave from 35 feet was long as the buzzer sounded. Baker hit two three-pointers, and Williams added a third in a 90-second span for OSU to cut the lead to 50-48 with 2:44 left. The Cowboys trimmed the lead to just one point before Kelly connected from 10 feet and Fredie Williams stole the inbounds pass and scored on a layup.
Last Time in Stillwater
Oklahoma State rallied from a 14-point second-half deficit to force overtime, but was outscored 13-2 in the extra session and lost to Texas, 80-69. The loss was the first in 10 home games for the Cowboys and second overtime defeat of the year. OSU trailed, 42-34, at halftime, its largest deficit at the half of the season. The Longhorns increased the lead to 48-34 to open the second stanza, mainly due to a 23-10 offensive rebounding edge. The Cowboys stormed back behind leading scorer Maurice Baker who scored 12 of the team's next 17 points to cut the UT lead to seven at 58-51. Baker finished with 24 points, 19 coming in the second half including a three pointer at the 2:27 mark to give the Cowboys a 63-62 lead. Texas would take the lead back at 67-65 with 10.7 seconds left before Baker scored on a driving layup with 5.1 seconds left to tie the game and force overtime.
Baker Earns Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week
Oklahoma State's Maurice Baker was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 31. Baker averaged 21.8 points in four games over the holiday break. He opened the holidays with 22 points in OSU's 79-44 win over Northwestern State. He scored all 22 in the first half of the contest. The Madison, Ill., native matched that 22 points with 22 more in the 62-50 win over UMKC on Dec. 19. Baker had all of those points in the second half. In the come-from-behind 85-76 win against Arkansas, Baker scored 21 points. OSU trailed Arkansas by as many as 22 in the game and Baker scored six of his 21 in the final minute of the game. In the 82-70 win over previously-ranked Ball State, Baker scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half. A first-team All-Big 12 selection last season and a preseason Wooden Award candidate, Baker is fourth in the Big 12 in scoring with an 18.5 ppg average. He is third in three-point field-goal percentage, fifth in steals, ninth in rebounding and 11th in assists per game.
Cowboy Noteworthy
* Oklahoma State is one of four teams in the country that is still undefeated. Miami of Florida is 14-0, while the Cowboys are 13-0. Duke is 12-0, while Virginia is 9-0.
* Oklahoma State is tied with two other teams for the most wins on the season so far. Miami leads the country with a 14-0 mark, followed by OSU with a 13-0 record. Mississippi State and Butler are both 13-1. There are eight teams with 12 wins this season, led by Duke's 12-0 record.
* Oklahoma State is ranked in the top 10 in all three major ratings percentage indices. Sagarin has OSU ranked third behind Duke and Cincinnati, while College Basketball News has the Cowboys ranked seventh. OSU is eighth according to the collegerpi.com website.
13-0 Record Third-Best in School History
Oklahoma State's 13-0 start to the season is the third-best ever in school history. The 1991-92 Cowboys began the season with 20-consecutive wins that lasted until Feb. 5. The string included a preseason NIT Championship and a No. 2 national ranking. That team finished the season with a 28-8 record and lost in the Sweet 16. In 1950-51, Oklahoma A&M began the season 16-0 and was the top-ranked team in the country before its first loss on Jan. 20. That year, the Aggies finished with a 29-6 record and a fourth-place finish at the Final Four.
Sutton First Member of 250-250 Club
After some dilligent research by Gary Johnson at the NCAA, it has been determined that Coach Eddie Sutton is the first coach in history to win 250 games at two different Division I schools. Coach Sutton picked up 260 wins while at Arkansas, and currently has 262 at Oklahoma State. Connecticut's Jim Calhoun had 349 wins entering the season at UConn, and had 248 victories at Northeastern. Lou Henson of New Mexico State had 423 wins at Illinois and has 232 prior to this season at NMSU.
Cowboys In The Polls
Oklahoma State is currently ranked fifth in both the Associated Press poll and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. The Cowboys gained ground on No. 4 Virginia in both polls this past week, decreasing the Cavaliers lead in the AP poll from 36 to six and in the ESPN poll from 43 to 26. It is the highest ranking OSU has achieved since the Cowboys were ranked second nationally in mid-February of 1992. OSU was ranked No. 2 for two weeks before dropping back to eighth that year. Four of Oklahoma State's opponents this season are ranked in the top 25 of both polls (Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Cincinnati), while three more are receiving votes in at least one of the polls. OSU in the Big 12 Statistics
Oklahoma State leads the Big 12 Conference in every defensive statistical category. The Cowboys are first in scoring defense (59.3 ppg), field-goal percentage defense (36.2 percent) and three-point field-goal defense (24.2 percent). OSU is second in the Big 12 in scoring margin, outscoring its opponents by an average of 20.8 points per contest, trailing Oklahoma which has a 22.7 scoring margin average. The Cowboys are also second in field-goal percentage (47.8), trailing on Kansas (51.5). Oklahoma State (42.9 rpg) is third in rebounding offense, third in rebounding defense (33.4), and fourth in rebounding margin (+9.5). The Cowboys are fourth in steals, averaging 8.46 thefts per contest.
Coach Sutton Reaches Milestone
Oklahoma State's 69-62 win over Cincinnati gave Coach Eddie Sutton his 250th victory at OSU, and his 680th win overall. With his 262 wins at Oklahoma State, he has surpassed his 260 victories while at Arkansas. He also needs just eight more victories to reach the 700-win plateau.
McFarlin Posting Big Numbers
Oklahoma State sophomore Ivan McFarlin is showing the league what the coaching staff has known all along - he's a prime-time player. In his first season with the Cowboys (he was a partial qualifier last season), he has nine double-figure scoring games with a season-high of 19 points. He also recorded his first double-double in the second game of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds vs. Austin Peay. He had back-to-back double-doubles with 10 and 10 vs. Arkansas and 11 and 11 vs. Ball State. In the first exhibition game of the season, I-Mac had 20 rebounds, including 10 on each end of the court. He is also second on the team in steals with 22 and leads the team with his 15 blocked shots. He is fifth in the Big 12 Conference in field-goal shooting, connecting on 58.3 percent of his shots.
J?nz?n Moving Up Scoring Chart
With 12 points vs. Ball State, senior center Fredrik J?nz?n became just the 23rd player in school history to record 1,000 points in their career. He now has 1,005 points, surpassing Brooks Thompson who had 996 in his three-year career. Fred is just 17 points from surpassing K.C. Kincaide and moving into 22nd place on the career scoring chart. He needs 28 points to move past Royce Jeffries, who had 1,032 points from 1987-90.
J?nz?n Surpasses 600 Career Rebounds
Senior center Fredrik J?nz?n moved into ninth-place on the career rebounding chart with his seven vs. Northwestern State. He now has 629 in his four years at OSU. He is just the 10th player in school history to record 600 boards in a career. With his 1,005 points, he is just the eighth player in school history to record 1,000 points and 600 rebounds in a career.
OSU Post Players Host Block Party
Through the first 13 games, OSU has blocked 53 shots, and average of 4.08 swats a game. Ivan McFarlin leads the team with 15, followed by Andre Williams and Antoine Broxsie who each have 12 blocked shots. Fredrik J?nz?n has seven, while Maurice Baker has three. Melvin Sanders and Jack Marlow have one each. Williams had four vs. Cincinnati and three vs. Northwestern State, while Broxsie had three vs. TCU, New Orleans and Northwestern State. McFarlin had three vs. North Texas and Ball State.
Andre Williams Fifth on All-Time Blocked Shots Chart
Oklahoma State junior Andre Williams recorded four blocks vs. Cincinnati, and with three vs. Northwestern State, he now has 13 this season. He became just the fifth player in school history to reach the century mark in blocked shots in his career. The amazing fact is that he accomplished that feat in just two seasons, the second Cowboy ever to do so. Byron Houston had 131 blocks after his sophomore year, and also owns the all-time career blocked-shots record with 223.
Gadson Coming On Strong
Junior college transfer Cheyne Gadson was hampered by knee surgery in the preseason, but the point guard is getting stronger every game. His playing time is up to nearly 19 minutes per game. He is averaging 5.2 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. He is also shooting 44 percent from the floor and 78.6 percent from the line. He has 35 assists, an average of 2.7 per game. He started the New Orleans game at point guard, and will see more action as OSU moves to more three-guard lineups.
