COWGIRLS TRAVEL TO LUBBOCK TO TAKE ON TEXAS TECH
Oklahoma State's Cowgirl basketball team (10-8 overall, 2-3 Big 12) will
shoot for its second consecutive win over a ranked opponent when it travels
to Lubbock on Wednesday to take on the No. 12/13 Texas Tech Lady Raiders
(11-5, 3-3) at 8 p.m.
OSU enters the matchup fresh off a 68-60 upset over then-No. 9 Kansas State, while Texas Tech defeated a pair of Top 15 teams, Baylor and Iowa State, in its last two outings.
The Lady Raiders are led offensively by Jia Perkins' 16.2 points per contest and team-best 73 assists. The sophomore guard is also getting it done on the defensive end, leading the squad with 41 steals.
Tech holds a 13-10 advantage in the all-time series with the Cowgirls after winning the last 10 games between the two schools.
COMING UP
The Cowgirls will travel to Lawrence, Kan., on Saturday to take on the
Kansas Jayhawks at 2 p.m. Head coach Marian Washington's squad enters this
week's action with a 5-14 mark overall. KU is looking for its first Big 12
win of the season and is currently 0-6 in league play. The Cowgirls won last
year's regular-season matchup 61-53 in Stillwater, while the Jayhawks came
away with a 66-56 win at the Big 12 Tournament and lead the overall series
25-16. Kansas has won the last three meetings in Allen Fieldhouse, with its
last home defeat to OSU coming on Jan. 22, 1995 (81-73).
LAST TIME OUT
Oklahoma State stunned No. 9 Kansas State 68-60 on Saturday, sending the
Wildcats to just their second loss of the season. Sophomore Trisha Skibbe
led the way for OSU, tallying 23 points and nine boards. Junior guard
Chantoya Hawkins dropped in 18 points, including three of the team's
season-high eight three-point baskets, and five assists. The Raytown, Mo.,
native's best effort, however, may have come on the defensive end, where she
recorded four steals and limited KSU's leading scorer, Laurie Koehn (18.8
ppg), to 8 points on 3-of-11 shooting. Senior Tari Cummings chipped in with
13 second-half points, seven caroms and a pair of blocked shots. The win was
the Cowgirls' first over a Top-10 opponent since winning at No. 7 Texas Tech
78-56 on Jan.8, 1997. The win also snapped a three-game losing skid for OSU
and a 14-game winning streak for K-State, which was the third-longest in the
nation and second-best in school history.
