COWGIRLS SET TO TAKE ON KANSAS STATE
Oklahoma State's Cowgirl basketball team (9-8 overall, 1-3 Big 12) will
close out its two-game homestand on Saturday against upstart Kansas State at
7 p.m.
After being picked to finish seventh in the preseason Big 12 polls, the
Wildcats (17-1, 5-0) have vaulted to the top of the Big 12. K-State has
reeled off 14 consecutive wins, the second-longest streak in school history,
and checks in at Nos. 9 and 15 in the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN
Coaches' Polls, respectively.
A trio of young standouts lead the club offensively, as sophomore Nicole
Ohlde (17.4 ppg) and freshmen Laurie Koehn (18.8 ppg) and Kendra Wecker
(16.9 ppg) are the squad's top-three scorers.
The Cowgirls lead the all-time series against the Wildcats 24-21 after
posting a 69-55 win last season in Manhattan. KSU won the last meeting
between the two schools in Stillwater, a 71-64 win on Feb. 9, 2000.
LAST TIME OUT
Oklahoma State lost for the first time this season inside the friendly
confines of Gallagher-Iba Arena on Wednesday night, falling 77-64 to the
No.12-ranked Texas Longhorns. Sophomore Trisha Skibbe led the squad with 13
points and six rebounds, while senior Terrisha Osborn tied a career high
with 12 points to go along with six boards. Senior Tari Cummings chipped in
with 11 points, six caroms and five steals.
COMING UP
The Cowgirls will hit the road for their fifth consecutive game against
Top-25 competition when they travel to Lubbock, Texas to take on the No.
15-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders. Tech holds a 13-10 lead in the all-time
series and has won the last ten meetings between the two schools.
