Oklahoma State beat defending champion South Alabama 27-20 today at the World Team Tennis (WTT) National Collegiate Championship.
Junior Linda Faltynkova had a big day for OSU as she gave the Cowboys their first lead of the match by defeating Slivia Sosnarova 6-0 in the women's singles match. The duo of Faltynkova and senior Fran Krepelka clinched the title by beating Evan Fowler and Vicki Stoklasova 6-2 in the mixed doubles match.
"We were so close in the first three sets, but couldn't quite pull them out," Oklahoma State coach Brad Chiller said. "But Linda really came through for us in singles, and that was the difference."
OSU was able to capture the lead by winning the last two matches by a combined score of 12-2.
"This is such a great format," said Chiller. "Our players really enjoyed it and it was nice to be able to put them in so many pressure situations this early in the season and see them respond the way they did."
The Cowboys win gave South Alabama it's first loss in 10 WTT matches and two tournament appearances. OSU improved their record to 5-0 for the tournament.
