Stillwater, Okla. - Amy Gusso has been named an assistant women's basketball coach at Oklahoma State, it was announced today. She will be primarily in charge of the day-to-day recruiting responsibilites, as well as on-the-floor coaching.
"The exciting thing about Amy is that she has played and been around the Big 12 Conference, so she knows what kind of talent is needed to compete," said head coach Dick Halterman. "She's a young, energetic, enthusiastic coach, who will quickly work her way up the coaching ranks. I'm looking forward to working with her."
Gusso spent last season as an assistant under former Cowgirl coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair at Texas-San Antonio. Prior to her stint at UTSA, Gusso was an assistant at Nebraska-Kearney in 1999-2000.
"I feel honored to be in this situation, because all the tools are here for an exceptional program," said Gusso. "I look forward to working with Coach Halterman and his 18 years of experience. The committment that OSU has made to facilities will really help with recruiting."
Gusso played four years at Nebraska under coaches Angela Beck and Paul Sanderford, earning Academic All-Big 12 honors in 1997 and 1998. She earned her bachelor's degree from NU in 1998, and went on to achieve her master's degree in sports administration from Nebraska-Kearney last summer.
